Good morning! I want to turn your attention to a new page I'm working on for crochet video tutorials here on my blog. I've been having a hard time getting the camera to film my hands clearly because the lens is so long and my hands are too close to the lens if I put the camera in front of my chest. And out of nowhere last night I had the idea to set it on top of the dinner table on a tripod, aimed all the way down off the side, but with heavy weights on the back of the tripod to prevent it from falling over and crashing into my head. So far it worked and I'll be adding more eventually, but I can't see the camera screen at all to know if I'm actually capturing my hands on tape so at points I may be off center. But for now, there's the very basic beginnings steps for learning to crochet: how to make a slipknot and how to hold the yarn and do the chain stitch. You can find them easily in the future by clicking Crochet Along in my nav bar.
How to make a slipknot
How to hold your yarn and do the chain stitch

I learned to crochet in high school but I just knew how to do a basic stitch and go in a straight line. I'd love to learn again, I'm excited to check out your videos!
ReplyDeleteThank you for these! I'm brand spankin' new to crochet and videos are one of the most helpful mediums for me when learning something new. I'm pinning these to my crochet board and look forward to many more videos from you. Who knows, maybe I can soon get to the point that I can join your crochet along. :)
ReplyDeleteoh yay! that makes me happy. and exactly why i wanted to make these so newbies can join in :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for the slip knot video!!! For some reason that seems to be the one I get asked to help with all the time, because friends keep forgetting how. I was getting tired of showing them over and over again. LOL! Now I can just send them here! :)
ReplyDeleteHmm.. I think Disqus just ate my comment. Lol. I was just saying how that's a very interesting way to make a slip knot - never seen it done quite like that but it actually does look easier than how I do it! Lol. Also I wondered if you might want to place a light sort of in front / above you facing back in towards your hands -- that would help get rid of that shadow that's creeping into the bottom of the screen.
ReplyDeleteI love watching people crochet. I hold my yarn and needle weirdly though lol, I could never get the tension holding it the right way, I did find someone else who did it the same way on youtube once though which made my day haha.
ReplyDeleteCould you do a magic ring video? I've watched a few on youtube but I still can't seem to get it right, I'd love to see how you do it.
yes, i'll be making a magic ring tutorial very soon!
ReplyDeleteyea the natural lighting yesterday was so weird. it was grey one minute and blazing sun the next. i'm still figuring my set-up out.
