December's crochet-along project is...

The slouchy beanie!

Pattern
Available here on Little Things Blogged

Materials
Worsted weight yarn
4.5mm hook (I'm using a 5.5mm because I actually don't have that size. Weird.)

Time frame
We will be linking up December 30th

Stitches to know
Double crochet (video tutorial)
Single crochet through back loop - sc tbl is her abbreviation in the pattern. (video tutorial)
How to change color (video tutorial). I wish I had my own video camera because I'd show you the way I do it. I can't find a good enough video that I like and that shows how I do it, but this one is close enough.

Helpful tips to get you started
-The pattern says to start with a chain but you can very well start with a magic ring so the hole can be closed up tight. Click for my photo tutorial on how to make a magic ring.

-If you want to add a pom pom, here's a good video tutorial on how to make one.

If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below! The whole point of these crochet-alongs is to work together so if you are having problems we can all help each other out!

If you are participating, feel free to grab a button to share the word!
We are also using the hashtag #CrochetAlong to chat about our progress on Twitter.

  18. This project inspired me to make my first toque! If I'm being honest, I didn't think I was capable of doing such a thing and that's why I have never tried. But, I finally did and I'm really stoked to say, last night I sat down, came to this page, went to the pattern, realized I couldn't read it and rather than giving up, I went to a YouTube video and made a similar, but different, toque. And, then, I made a second one.

Although I didn't do the exact project you set out for people, I still want to thank you for being the jumping off point for me. I have been crocheting straight lines for years, never straying from scarves, blankets and headbands. I'm so stoked that I have finally taken the leap into something more.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is, thanks for the inspiration. You're awesome, Alycia.

  19. :):) thank you so much! that makes me incredibly happy because this is exactly why i started having these crochet alongs, to get people inspired to learn or to give crochet another chance. i failed miserably on my first few tries and i know the frustration. but when you finally learn to do it the feeling is amazing! and i give all the credit to youtube videos. without them i wouldn't have the patience to learn.
