Friday Featured Seller: Fai from Cocoa Chu Chu!

Friday, February 12, 2010

I fell in love with Fai's shop a while back and was so sad when I couldn't find it when I went looking for it again, so I was so glad to have had her apply to be featured here on my blog! She has some of the most beautifully taken photos of her items I've ever seen! They are like candy for my eyes :) That just goes to show how important good photos really are because each one of her images is like a tiny piece of art in itself!

Tell us about yourself. Name, location, what do you like to do for fun?
- Hi, my name is Fai. I'm from Thailand, but I'm currently living in Toronto, Canada.
I love spending time with my fiance, my family and my puppy. I love eating, cooking good food
and go dancing with my girlfriends :)

What is your shop's name & url? What do you sell there?
- I have a whimsical jewelry shop on Etsy. My shop's name is Cocoa Chu Chu. You can visit my shop at http://cocoachuchu.etsy.com

How did you get your shop's name?
- I got the name from my passion of Cocoa beans and Chu Chu means kisses in Japanese. Sorry if it's complicated!!

What is your favorite item in your shop?
- My favorite item in my shop is one of my necklaces, Paris, je t'aime (http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=33019493). I love everything French and whimsical.

What inspired you to create what you make on Etsy?
- Many things I enjoy in life! Such as flowers, nature, all things frilly, pastel hues, vintage toys, Europe, music, something petite, something delicate and something French!

Do you listen to music when you create items for your shop? If so, what do you listen to?
- I do all the time, I even sing along too! My favorite bands are Foo Fighters, Weezer and Radiohead, but I'm really into Jazz these days.

How many hours a day/week do you put into your shop?
- I'm currently a part-time Etsy seller. I usually spend 3-5 hours a day on my shop.

Take us through your creative process when you make items for your shop:
- When a nice idea comes up, I make sure I write it down immediately. I tend to be forgetful sometimes if I don't write it down. Then I get into work right away.

What is the most helpful piece of advice/tool/tip that you have discovered while selling on Etsy?
- Etsy forum is a really good place to stick around. Other sellers are very helpful. They give lots of good advice and share nice tips.

What do you find most challenging?
- Thinking the glass is half full is the most challenging thing for me. I tend to be down when the sales are slow or when I have obstacles. I'm learning to force myself to stay positive!!

How do you promote your shop?
- I have a blog and I sometimes buy an ad on other websites or blogs.

Do you promote off the internet too, such as craft fairs, etc.?
- By words of mouth! I tell everyone I meet I have a shop. My family and friends also tell everyone they meet about my shop!

What venue do you find to be the most helpful in promoting?
- Doing giveaways on blogs is a good exposure and by words of mouth.

If you could give any advice to newbie sellers, what would it be?
- Learn from successful sellers and do what they do!

What shop goals do you wish to accomplish this year?
- There are so many things I would like to improve this year, such as better photography, shop packaging (I want to do an eco-friendly and recyclable packaging), put more effort in promotions and hopefully become a full time seller by this year.

What is your favorite movie?
- Anything with Johnny Depp in it :)

Favorite book or author?
- I'm really into Haruki Murakami these days.

You are going to a deserted island and you can only bring three items. What are they?
- My fiance, snacks and Doraemon!

Thanks Fai! I just have to add that I chuckled when I read the answer to your last question how you said you'd bring your fiance to the deserted island! I never thought of that but that is quite smart! lol
